Elijah Reichlin-Melnick is fighting for Rockland
DELIVERING TAX RELIEF FOR ROCKLAND
During his time in the State Senate, Elijah secured $2.2 billion dollars in property tax rebate checks for working and middle class homeowners. Elijah also cut middle class income taxes by hundreds of millions of dollars and eliminated state sales taxes on gas until the end of the year.
STANDING UP TO CONGESTION PRICING
Congestion pricing would be just the latest tax that benefits NYC at the expense of Rockland residents. For commuters, these costs could be thousands of dollars a year. Unlike other parts of the metro area, we have no quick or easy way to get into NYC by mass transit, that’s why Elijah has been standing up for Rockland and fighting to improve mass transit service and exempt Rockland drivers from congestion pricing.
DEFENDING A WOMAN’S RIGHT TO CHOOSE
With Roe v. Wade gone, Elijah Reichlin-Melnick is fighting back. Elijah sponsored and passed legislation to amend the state constitution to protect women’s healthcare and ensure that women in New York will always have the right to choose.
SECURING EDUCATION FUNDING & EQUITY
As a former public school teacher, Elijah is committed to making sure Rockland County schools provide an excellent education for our kids. As your State Senator, he has secured record state funding for public schools, saving money for local taxpayers. He introduced and passed legislation to provide the toughest state oversight in NY history for the troubled East Ramapo School District. In addition, Elijah led the charge to bring universal pre-K and expanded childcare options to our community, helping working families across the district.
PRIORITIZING PUBLIC SAFETY
In the State Senate, Elijah has fought to keep us safe by making common sense changes to the bail reform law, empowering judges with more discretion to keep people charged with gun crimes and other dangerous offenses off our streets. He introduced and passed legislation to identify and address root causes of the gun violence epidemic and voted to strengthen gun safety laws including new restrictions on the purchase of semi-automatic rifles.
FIGHTING FOR MENTAL HEALTH
We’re confronting a mental health crisis, but Elijah has been leading the way to make mental healthcare a priority, by introducing a state constitutional amendment to ensure mental health services get the funding they deserve. He’s voted to expand funding for veterans’ mental health services. And when former Governor Cuomo tried to close down Rockland Children’s Psychiatric Center, Elijah led a bipartisan coalition of elected officials and forced Cuomo to back down, preserving a critical mental health facility that serves the neediest kids.
PROTECTING OUR ENVIRONMENT
The Hudson Valley is one of the most beautiful places in New York, but Elijah knows we have to act to protect our environment and ensure our future in a changing climate. That’s why he’s passed legislation to tighten water quality standards, improve protections for open space, and authorized a $4.2 billion environmental bond act that will fund renewable energy projects, address persistent flooding problems, and fund improvements in water quality throughout New York.
