Absentee Ballot Information
SPECIAL NOTICE ABOUT ABSENTEE BALLOTS
Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, all voters in New York State are eligible to vote by absentee ballot in the November 3 General Election.
To receive an absentee ballot, please go to https://absenteeballot.elections.ny.gov/ and complete the online form. Make sure to check the reason for requesting the absentee ballot as “Temporary Illness” even if you are not sick. This lets the government know you are requesting the ballot due to COVID-19.
Alternatively, you can choose to print a paper application and submit it via mail or drop off to your local Board of Elections by printing the document at the link below and following the instructions on this page.
HOW TO COMPLETE THE ABSENTEE BALLOT REQUEST FORM
Absentee ballot applications will look like the photo below. We have included step by step instructions for you to follow along.
Step 1 and Step 2
When you complete your absentee Ballot application, you should check the boxes as shown here. You do not need to fill out any other information in these first two boxes:
Step 3, Step 4, Step 5
Complete steps 3, 4, and 5 with the appropriate information. If you frequent several addresses, make sure to use the address here where you are registered to vote. If you are not sure where you are registered to vote, you can look up your registration at https://voterlookup.elections.ny.gov/
Step 6 and Step 7
Step number 6 should be left blank, since you are only applying for an absentee ballot for the general election. In step 7 please make sure to fill out the location you would like your absentee ballot mailed to, which may be different from the address where you are registered.
Step 8
Make sure to sign your full name in step 8 (you cannot print your name or use initials, you must use your signature). If you have multiple versions of your signature, be sure to use the same signature you would have used to register to vote. Do not forget to fill in the date!
Mailing in the Absentee Ballot Application
Upon completion of the absentee ballot application, you must mail it to the Board of Elections. Once the Board of Elections is in receipt of your application, a ballot will be mailed to you. Alternatively, you can drop the application off at the Board of Election as well.
